Traditions In The
Making 2001
The fourth
Annual Pow Wow for Traditions was a success!! Our reputation and status is
growing; we had 119 registered dancers and approximately 25 tiny tots.
Mr. Blackbird, Arena Director and Mr. Shepherd, Master of Ceremonies performed
an excellent job by keeping the pow wow running smoothly throughout the
afternoon and evening.
Mr. Wall and the Southern
Mountain Inter-tribal Singers were wonderful in hosting the pow wow with
memorable songs.
Unfortunately Mr. LaRose
and Mr. Standing Bear were not able to make it this year. Rick Grant of
Montezuma Creek, UT was gracious enough to accept the position of Head Man
Dancer. Our appreciation also goes to Margaret Lubke, USU, Logan, UT and her
students - the tabulation of points is most important for the
contest.
TJ and I are very grateful for the head staff,
committee members and family who have helped to make the 2001 Traditions In The
Making Pow Wow another successful year!
My deepest gratitude goes
to my parents Samuel Tom and Lupita Mae Holiday. They traveled from Arizona to
come and be a part of the pow wow. My heart fills with pride as I watch people
recognize my father and pay their respects to him for his part in World War II
as a Navajo Code Talker veteran. Visitors from Idaho and from the Salt Lake
City area came to Delta just to watch the pow wow. This is what makes it all
worth it... thank you!
